Frequently asked questions.

  • People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons, and you don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. If you're feeling stuck—individually or in your relationship(s)—therapy can help. It’s a space to gain new perspectives, develop practical coping tools, and understand yourself or your relationship(s) on a deeper level. If you’re ready to feel more aligned and empowered, therapy is a great place to start.

  • Yes! I offer both in person and virtual therapy sessions. In person sessions are in the South Broad Ripple area of Indianapolis, and virtual sessions are for anyone in the state of Indiana— please note: you must be physically located in Indiana, as that is currently the only state I’m licensed in.

  • I am currently in-network with Anthem. If you have a different insurance provider, I would be considered an out-of-network provider.

To make this process easier, I’ve partnered with Thrizer, a service that helps clients utilize their out-of-network benefits. Thrizer submits superbills directly to your insurance company and, if you have eligible benefits, they will cover the cost up front while you wait for reimbursement—so you don’t have to pay the full session fee out of pocket.

If you'd like to learn more about how this works, I'm happy to walk you through the details!

Note: insurance call be billed for traditional 50-minute individual or couples therapy. However, intensives, groups, and workshops are out-of-pocket only.

Some potential questions to ask your health insurance provider include:

Are mental health services included in my coverage?

Does my plan cover visits to out-of-network providers?

What is the coverage amount for each therapy session?

How does my deductible apply to out-of-network services on the superbill?

Does my health insurance plan cover a certain number of therapy sessions?

What is the typical timeframe for processing and reimbursing claims based on submitted superbills?

  • I do offer a limited number of sliding scale spots through Open Path Collective, a nonprofit organization that connects clients with therapists offering affordable care. Clients pay a one-time membership fee and gain access to a network of therapists providing sliding scale and reduced-rate services.

If you’re interested in this option, feel free to reach out—I’d be happy to provide more information.
Please note: all of my sliding scale spots are currently full. If you’d like to work with me at a reduced rate, I can add you to the waitlist and notify you when a spot becomes available.

  • I accept all major credit and debit cards as well as HSA/FSA cards.

  • I get that life happens, and sometimes plans change. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a cancellation fee. Missed sessions or late cancellations are subject to a fee because that time has been set aside just for you—and with short notice, I’m often unable to offer it to another client who may be waiting.

That said, I strive to be flexible and understanding. If something comes up, please reach out—we’ll do our best to find a solution together.

  • Sessions are typically 50 minutes long, but I also offer longer-format intensives for those who want to go deeper. Session frequency depends on your needs. We’ll typically begin with weekly sessions, as consistency helps build momentum early on. As you make progress, we may adjust the frequency to biweekly or even less often than that. Ultimately, session frequency is flexible and tailored to your individual needs and goals.

  • Our first session is all about building connection and comfort. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, your goals, and what you’re hoping to work on. I’ll ask thoughtful questions to better understand your needs, but there’s no pressure to have it all figured out. My aim is to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and heard.

By the end of our session, my hope is that you’ll feel a sense of clarity about your next steps—and confidence in your decision to begin therapy.

  • Yes—therapy is confidential. Your privacy is a top priority, and everything you share in session is protected by legal and ethical standards. There are a few exceptions—such as concerns about imminent harm or certain legal situations—which I’ll always review with you at the start of our work together.

Even outside of session, your confidentiality matters. If I see you in public, I won’t approach you unless you say hello first. You’re always in control of how—or if—you acknowledge our connection outside the therapy room.

  • Finding the right therapist is one of the most important parts of the process. Therapy works best when you feel safe, understood, and genuinely connected to the person you're working with. If you’re looking for someone who’s affirming, laid-back, and collaborative—and who brings a deep understanding of identity, relationships, and queerness—we might be a good fit.

I offer a free consultation so you can ask questions, get a feel for my style, and see how it feels to talk with me—no pressure, no commitment. Trust your gut—it matters here.

If it turns out we’re not the right fit, that is 100% okay! I am happy to make referrals or help you find someone who may be a better fit for what you need. This is true at any point throughout the therapeutic process; needs change, and that’s okay!

  • The Hold Me Tight™ 10-week program for couples covers the same content as the 2-day Hold Me Tight™ workshop, but is spread out over 10 weeks and 12 sessions. Unlike the group workshop, this program is a private experience, tailored to just one couple.

While regular couples therapy also uses the Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) framework, it doesn't include the same structured educational components as the program or workshop. Therapy also tends to move at a slower, more flexible pace—sessions might be weekly, biweekly, or even less frequent—depending on the couple’s needs.

Because of the intensive structure and focus, couples in the Hold Me Tight™ program or workshop often experience faster progress. Additionally, couples who attend the workshop or program receive a copy of Hold Me Tight by Dr. Sue Johnson, which supports and reinforces the work done in sessions.

Each option offers meaningful support—your choice depends on your schedule, preferences, and how quickly you’d like to move through the EFT framework.

  • You absolutely can do this! Many couples choose to schedule follow-up sessions after the workshop or program to help maintain the progress they’ve made. These sessions provide ongoing support and ensure that the positive changes continue to grow over time.
